Welcome to the Klein Collins English Second Language (ESL) information page!
At Klein Collins, our mission is to ensure that ALL English Language Learners (ELLs) - speakers of languages other than English achieve high academic standards and attain Advanced High levels of proficiency in English in all four language domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Academic English proficiency is a critical component for our students’ success. English Language Learners (ELLs) must not only be able to communicate with classmates and teachers proficiently, but also be able to complete high level academic assignments in English. The needs of the whole child are critical; therefore, we believe in implementing comprehensive systems to support our ELL students.
Instruction will utilize best practices and reflect the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and Klein ISD curriculum guidelines in all academic areas.
All students will experience rigorous, complex, and meaningful learning that promotes critical thinking and empowers them to contribute successfully and positively to society.
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are designed to enable students to master English language skills in the ESL educational program.
Students are identified using state-defined criteria on an approved oral and written English proficiency test. Qualifying students are entitled to instructional support with specialized teachers to enable the student to develop proficiency in the English language for success in school.
At the high school level, students take sheltered classes designed to progress their language abilities. Other support courses such as reading and practical writing encourage English proficiency and usage.
